[amlit] Presentation Assignment
American Literature, AMLIT1, AMLIT2, AMLIT3, UncategorizedYour presentation is a verbal and visual narrative of your process letter. This means your presentation should touch on all of the main sections of your letter (Decisions, Inspiration, Process, and Truth & Consequences) as well as incorporating images of your project. If your project resulted in something performative (a song, a skit, a film, a video game, etc.) then you are required to perform—or, at the very least, show us a previously performed version of–your project. If your project is more static (like an art piece, poetry, an essay, etc), then you are required to share important aspects of your final product and guide us to comprehend the meaning. This means, for art, you will show the piece and explain; for poetry or essays, you are expected to read aloud from your work. Presentations should last for at least three minutes and no more than seven.

[world] Where I’m From Poem: Revision Assignment
UncategorizedAs per class:
Please use your original poem as a springboard for a revised Where I’m From poem. Be sure to use concrete details and include sensory writing. Be fearless in your language, too, and don’t shy from abstract notions just yet.
Remember–this version should include a finalizing stanza that functions like the George Ella Lyons poem. Which is to say, you should include a final stanza that captures an image of you and where you’re from to leave the reader with a final impression.
Due Dates:
- [WL1] Tuesday, 1st period
- [WL2] Monday, 7th period
- [WL3] Tuesday, 7th period
Be sure to include your first, in-class draft along with your final draft. Final drafts should be printed before class if they were typed.
Below are the eleven guiding questions we used to generate our first drafts, as well as the poem “Where I’m From” by George Ella Lyon. You may, once again, use these as a guide for your work.
***
1.Describe where you live. What does it look like? What does it smell like? What does it feel like? (This could be your actual house, or it could be another place that represents where you are from.)
2. What objects or belongings can be found in your home or room?
3. What are the names of people in your “family” (they could be alive or deceased, they do not need to be blood-relations)
4. List two or three family traditions.
5. What phrases, words or sayings are important to you or to members of your family?
6. What are some beliefs that represent where you are from?
7. What foods are important to you or your family?
8. List 2 or 3 important childhood memories.
9. Describe the weather where you are from.
10. What do people do where you are from?
11. What are your favorite things to do?
[world] Memory Map
UncategorizedWe will begin our Memoir Unit with a creative project: a Memory Map. Follow the instructions below to craft a visual collection of memories that you may eventually mine for your written memoir.
Your assignment: You will create a visual “map’ of your life so far. Make sure to include important people, settings, and events. Include things you have learned that matter to you and include things that differentiate you form other people.
Your memory map can be in the form of a collage, a time line or presented in some other creative way. Each Memory Map must include the following:
- Your name and what it means to you
- Important people in your life—of course you will include family and friends, but also think about other people who have shaped you or taught you lessons
- Important places you have lived
- Important lessons you have learned
- Important achievements or disappointments
- Important births or deaths
- Anything else you know is important to who you are that you feel comfortable sharing
You will be graded on effort, completeness, and creativity. Good luck!
EDIT: Here is a link to prezi.com where you can make interactive slideshows for your project. This is just one option; remember that you can use any medium that you desire.
